Lawns are being mowed, windows are being cleaned and new stock in The Duchess’ Shop is being arranged. With one day left until the Abbey reopens to the public for 2014, our team are busy making the final preparations across the site.
Our two exhibitions, Peeling Back the Years and Valiant Hearts, are nearly ready to receive their first visitors. Our maintenance team have been applying a final lick of paint and hanging the last exhibition boards so that visitors can marvel at a fragment of original wallpaper which dates back to 1752 and discover the uncensored letters written to the 11th Duke during World War I.
The Duchess’ Tea Room has been refurbished during the last month and the new layout will provide an enhanced visitor experience. We will be serving a variety of sandwiches, snacks and beverages as well as a hot dish of the day. It you’d like to enjoy a splendid Duchess Anna Maria Afternoon Tea, please make sure to book in advance as demand is high. On sunny days look out for our new ice cream bicycle, brining you a refreshing treat out and about in the gardens and grounds.
The Duchess’ Shop has also been revitalised over the winter months. A new introductory exhibition will aid visitors in understanding the heritage and context of Woburn Abbey and Gardens as they enter. We have also redecorated the shop space and given it a new layout. Find out more about the new products on offer on The Duchess’ Shop’s new webpage.
The Gardens, having been open to visitors at weekends throughout the winter, are bursting with colour and late spring flowers ahead of their move to daily opening from tomorrow. Pay us a visit this weekend or over the Easter holidays during one of our many special events.
