Art and Horticulture
Join our Curator, Matthew Hirst, for a guided view of the exhibition “Humphry Repton: Art and Nature for the Duke of Bedford”, which includes Repton’s Red Book for Woburn as the centrepiece of the exhibition. Following this, Matthew will give a tour of the Holland Library in the family’s private apartments, culminating in a privileged viewing of some of the horticultural treasures in the Library collection. The 6th Duke of Bedford, Repton’s patron, also contributed to many significant plant collecting missions to the Americas and Europe, amassing over 600 new species for Woburn. Many of these are
recorded in specialist books he had published. These, together with rare and beautiful books of the 18th and 19th century will be on view during the tour.

*NEW FOR 2019* ‘The Good Life Connection’ area
A brand new theme this year is ways to make life richer, healthier, more mindful, more meaningful and more sustainable. By adopting ‘The Good Life’ approach and the Show’s mantra that everything comes back to the plant, visitors and exhibitors will be brought together through sharing, learning and building confidences to become successful, independent and happy growers.
A key element of this area will be the exclusive Field Kitchen, where celebrity chef, cookery author and vegetable expert Rachel Green will be taking homegrown produce and transforming it into delicious dishes. Also on hand to give tips and share their experiences of home growing and self sufficient living will be renowned vloggers ‘Agents of Field’ Sophie and Ade, who are themselves living ‘The Good Life’.
