The Bedford Estates - London Gardens Blog

Bloomsbury is famous for its formal garden squares, which are overlooked by the many period properties that line its leafy streets. There are a total of 10 squares in the Bloomsbury area. From the large, public Russell Square, a short stroll from Holborn and Russell Square Underground stations, to private spaces such as Ridgmount Gardens and Bedford Square, in Bloomsbury you are never far from a glorious Georgian garden.

As always, winter is never as dormant as one might assume.  It’s a time to make changes, replant and develop the garden.

This year, our colleagues in Woburn have sent us some magnificent tree stumps that we have incorporated as intriguing new features in the two of the London Gardens.  Turned upside down, these roots seem almost unworldly, nature’s sculptures.

They are also great resources for wildlife, harbouring beetles and insects that break down last year’s green matter, enriching the soil and encouraging more creepy crawlies, much to the delight of the birds.

Another year and the gardening cycle turns again.  Snow drops and daffodils galore!
