Carriage Tours - August

to

An exciting experience back by popular demand, enjoy a tour in a private carriage around the grounds and gardens of Woburn Abbey.

A piece of history is brought to life at Woburn Abbey, as horses hooves can be heard on the cobblestones of the courtyards once again. Take in breath-taking views across the grounds and throughout the gardens of Woburn Abbey from the comfort of your private carriage.

These types of carriages would have been a frequent sight around the grounds of the Abbey, in the mid-1800s, the time of the 7th Duke and Duchess of Bedford. This was the time when Afternoon tea is said to have been popularised by Duchess Anna Maria and the 7th Duke and Duchess welcomed Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to the Abbey.

Tours depart from North Court, which is where the Estate's blacksmith was once housed.

Carriage tours are around 30 minutes and a groomsman will accompany you to give you additional information along the way. Your ride will take you through areas of the deer park and the gardens including parts that are usually not accessible to the public.

On board you will find lovely blankets to keep you warm should you need them.

The cost of the carriage tour is £200 for up to four adults and includes tea/ coffee and either morning pastries or cake, depending on the time of day and entrance to the Woburn Abbey Gardens.

After your tour, the carriage will park briefly at the back of the Abbey in the East Court to give you the opportunity to have your picture taken in the carriage with the Abbey as a stunning backdrop.
